BUILDING THE CLIMATE MOVEMENT FROM BELOW Saturday 8th January, 11am ? 4:30pm, at the Old Music Hall, 106-108 Cowley Road, Oxford, OX4 1JE. For more information / place booking email: info at climatealliance.co.uk, tel 0207 3244771 / 0787 6595993. The Climate Alliance believe that it is absolutely necessary to build locally; that it is impossible to have a national movement unless it is accompanied by vibrant local organisations. It is only through the efforts and actions of the largest numbers of people that governments will take the measures needed to address climate change. There is a need to look at what is happening locally and to stress the importance of the work that is and can be done at the grassroots level, especially at the attempts to build networks and alliances and coalitions. The workshop will look at the following topics: - Climate Campaigning at a local level - Zero Carbon Britain 2030 - Working with Trade Unions - Influencing local councils - Beyond Copenhagen - Building locally: what are the key steps? LOW CARBON TRANSPORT 7.30pm, Tuesday 25th January, St Margaret?s Institute, Polstead Road, Oxford OX2 6TN, a public meeting organised by Low Carbon Oxford North. The topic will be low carbon transport and the focus will be on car clubs and whether we can accelerate their introduction into North Oxford. It's a particularly good location as there is a shared car in the area run by Streetcar and so we hope to be able to gain experience of this. There are around 24 club cars in Oxford, but as yet few in North Oxford. Each club car is said to replace 24 private cars and offer more efficient models. Big claims! Come to the meeting and let's see whether we can set up some more. See also: www.lcon.org.uk
